Coronavirus and your benefits

COVID-19 vaccinations

The Medical Plan will cover COVID-19 vaccinations approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) at no cost to members, including when two doses are required. If getting the vaccine at a pharmacy, present your prescription ID card; at the hospital or doctor’s office show your medical ID card.

If you're enrolled in Medicare Supplement, Medicare pays 100 percent of the cost for FDA-approved vaccines.

Benefits updates

Medical Plan

In response to COVID-19, changes have been made to Medical Plan benefits related to COVID-19 testing and treatment, telemedicine, approved vaccines, and more.

Flexible spending accounts

As a result of legislation passed in response to the COVID-19 crisis, updates have been made to certain requirements of flexible spending accounts for 2020 and 2021, such as eligibility of expenses, changes to elections, and carryover limits.

Employee Assistance Plan

The Employee Assistance Plan (EAP), administered by Cigna Behavioral Health, is available to members with medical coverage* through the Board of Pensions, their families, and anyone who lives with them. Through the EAP, you have access to six private counseling sessions with a licensed clinician in Cigna's EAP network. These sessions can be virtual on your phone, tablet, or home computer, or face-to-face.

For retired members and employees not eligible for the EAP, Cigna is offering a separate 24-hour toll-free help line. Call 866-912-1687 to connect with qualified clinicians, including licensed social workers, professional counselors, and psychologists, who can provide support and guidance.

*The EAP is not available to members enrolled in Triple-S, GeoBlue, or the Medicare Supplement Plan. 

Dental Plan

When the American Dental Association lifts restrictions on non-urgent/emergency care, Aetna, the administrator of dental coverage through the Board of Pensions, will provide a three-month grace period for certain services which, under normal circumstances, would no longer be eligible for coverage.

The CARES Act

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to provide relief to those affected. The CARES Act contains several provisions that affect employee benefits provided through the Board of Pensions.
