Krysten Carter Holloway confirmed as President and CEO of the Board of Pensions

At the 227th General Assembly (2026), a new chapter began for The Board of Pensions of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) with the confirmation of Krysten Carter Holloway as President and CEO on June 28, 2026. Guided by a lifetime commitment to the Church and service, Holloway brings more than 20 years of healthcare expertise and purpose-driven leadership to the agency. Her appointment is a significant step as the agency responsible for comprehensive benefits that nurture the holistic well-being of Benefits Plan members focuses on strengthening its mission to the Church.
“I am deeply honored to serve as the next President of the Board of Pensions,” said Holloway. “Providing benefits is ministry. To marry my vocation and my love of the PC(USA) together is a blessing.”

Holloway’s deep commitment to the Church began when she was a child growing up in Alabama. A lifelong member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, she was shaped by her parents’ devotion to the Church and to the community, inspiring her own path of service. Her father, the Reverend Dr. Clyde L. Carter, served as the third pastor of Westminster, and later presided over the confirmation of his daughter as a Ruling Elder in the church she has long called home. Her mother, Eva O. Carter, is former Moderator of the Presbytery of Sheppards and Lapsley and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Board of Pensions. As Holloway assumes the role of President and CEO of the agency, she brings this legacy of service to the Church full circle.
“To me, service is an expression of faith in action,” said Holloway. “From a young age, I watched my parents engage in service to our congregation, our community, and ultimately to God. Their acts of kindness blended their love for the Church with their call to serve those in need.”

Holloway’s presidency is also a historic milestone for the Board of Pensions, as she is the first African American woman and the first person of color to be named President and CEO. She leads more than 200 agency staff members as they continue to support the operations and management of the Benefits Plan of the PC(USA). This diverse team, composed of ministers and lay staff with professional expertise across a wide range of disciplines, will support Holloway as she defines a long-term, strategic vision for the agency.
“The benefits decisions we make affect not just me, but all plan members and their generations to come, and that is not something I take lightly,” she added. “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the Church in the way that God has called me.”
