As part of our commitment to wholeness and well-being, the Board of Pensions provides generous preventive care benefits with all medical coverage options: PPO, EPO, and HDHP. These benefits exceed Affordable Care Act requirements and the standards of our medical claims administrator, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Importance of preventive care

By providing these enhanced preventive care benefits, we encourage members to get regular preventive examinations and be proactive about their physical well-being. We recognize the importance of preventive care in

  • reducing healthcare costs;
  • improving medical outcomes; and
  • even saving lives.

Costs and coverage for services

There is no cost to members and covered dependents when using network providers for the following:

  • yearly well visits with a primary care physician
  • annual well-woman visits with a gynecologist
  • certain health screenings and immunizations
  • additional specified screenings and immunizations for internationally adopted children up to age 18

The Board of Pensions provides a preventive schedule that details all covered preventive exams, screenings/procedures, immunizations, and more.
