Frequently asked questions about annual enrollment

Why is annual enrollment so important?

In most cases, annual enrollment is your only chance to make changes or elect new benefits. After annual enrollment ends, you may elect coverage or make changes only if you have a qualifying life event, such as getting married or adopting a child. Unless you have one of these events, your next chance to elect benefits or make changes will be fall 2022 for coverage effective January 1, 2023.

Even if you don't want to make any changes, log on to Benefits Connect during annual enrollment to review the 2022 costs for the coverage you have now, so you can budget accordingly.

How do I elect 2022 benefits?

You can elect 2022 benefits using Benefits Connect starting Monday, October 25 through Friday, November 12. When you log on to Benefits Connect, select My 2022 Benefits and follow the steps to make your elections and complete annual enrollment. If you haven't logged on in a while, you may need to first set up new security features before you can make your elections.

If my employer offers a flexible spending account and/or a health savings account, how do I enroll?

If you are eligible for a flexible spending account and/or health savings account, your employer will give you enrollment instructions and any necessary forms. You cannot enroll for these benefits through Benefits Connect.

What if I complete annual enrollment and then change my mind?

You can change and submit your elections as many times as you want before annual enrollment ends November 12. The last elections you submit before midnight ET November 12, 2021, will be your benefits effective January 1, 2022.

Just be sure to choose Submit Enrollment at the Review/Submit step when making your elections on Benefits Connect. If you don't, your elections will not be saved.

What happens if I do nothing during annual enrollment?

If you don't submit your elections by November 12, 2021, you may not have the coverage you want — or that meets your needs — effective January 1, 2022. Your next chance to elect benefits or make changes to your coverage will be fall 2022 for coverage effective January 1, 2023, unless you have a qualifying life event.
