The Board of Pensions is a proposed member of the class and eligible to share in a small portion of the settlement proceeds. We are working with counsel to understand the effect of the settlement on the Board and on individual members of the Medical Plan.
Only members who contributed toward the costs of their enrollment in the Medical Plan during the claims period are relevant to this settlement. Member contributions toward spousal and family member coverage are not applicable. Also, if member coverage was noncontributory (e.g., as with Pastor’s Participation or the former Traditional Program), it also would not be applicable.
The proposed settlement must be approved by the federal district court handling the lawsuit. The court is scheduled to hold a hearing on the fairness of the proposed settlement October 20, 2021. Claims for settlement proceeds must be submitted by November 5, 2021.
No, the settlement does not affect member benefits.
