Life Stages & EventsAs your life continues to grow and change, circumstances may arise that affect your benefits status and/or coverage. The Board of Pensions can help ease such transitions with dedicated information and resources relevant to specific life events. Select an event below to learn more.

Getting Married

Congratulations on your marriage! Your spouse is now eligible to receive medical benefits, and you can update your status and beneficiary records to reflect this change. more

Becoming a Parent

This is an exciting and busy time, filled with many significant firsts. Don’t forget to take a few minutes to add your child to the Plan and update your beneficiary records to reflect the new addition to your family. more

Children Turning 21

If attending college as a full-time student, your child can continue to be covered as your dependent. If not a full-time student, he or she will lose coverage at 21, but is eligible to purchase coverage through our Medical Continuation Program. more

Attending Seminary

We welcome your decision to enter the seminary and embark on your journey of spiritual service. As a seminary student, you may be eligible to purchase coverage through the Board's seminary student program. more

Entering the Benefits Plan

Congratulations on receiving your first call or finding employment within the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Depending on your position, you may be eligible to enroll in the Benefits Plan and receive a wide array of benefits. more

Changes in Service

Whether you have accepted a call or employment at a new church, changed position or compensation at your current organization, or your situation has been altered in some other way, these changes should be reported to the Board as quickly as possible. more

Terminating Service

We’re sorry your call or employment has ended. If you participated in the Traditional Program, you may be eligible to receive 30 days of free medical coverage and up to 90 days of free death and disability coverage. more

Disability

If you become unable to work due to a medical condition that is expected to last for more than 90 days, you may qualify for disability benefits from the Benefits Plan. more

Illness/Hospitalization

If you are admitted to the hospital for non-emergency medical or surgical treatment, facility-based mental health or substance abuse treatment, or certain imaging procedures, ActiveHealth Management and CIGNA Behavioral Health can help. more

Death

The Board expresses its deepest condolences to you during this difficult time. We encourage you to notify the Board of this event as soon as possible, especially if the deceased was an active, disabled, or retired member. more

Turning Age 65

Your health benefits may change when you reach age 65. If you plan to continue working past age 65, you must call Social Security to defer initiation of your Medicare Part B benefits. more

Retirement

After serving the church loyally for many years, it’s time for your well-deserved retirement. The Board can facilitate the process, helping you to initiate your pension benefits, sign up for Medicare, and decide on medical coverage options. more

Post-Retirement Service

You have decided to serve the church in a post-retirement position, in which a retiree temporarily fills a pastoral service. This service must be reported to the Board. more

Divorce

A divorce is a difficult and stressful event. Notifying the Board quickly allows us to update your records appropriately and provide the benefits information you need to speed the process along. more
