The Death Benefits Plan is designed to help ease the financial burden to your survivors and designated beneficiaries at the time of your death.

Eligibility

Death benefits protect you when you are an active, retired, or disabled member, depending on whether you meet specific requirements. more

Death Benefits for Active & Disabled Members

The death benefits available to eligible survivors of active and disabled members may include the Salary Continuation Benefit, the Lump Sum Death Benefit, the Living Needs Benefit, the Children's Education Benefit, the Survivor's Pension, and Supplemental Death Benefits. more

Death Benefits for Retired Members

The death benefits available to eligible survivors of retired members may include the Salary Continuation Benefit, the Living Needs Benefit, the Children's Education Benefit, and the Survivor's Pension. more

Salary Continuation for Active & Disabled Members

If you die with death benefits coverage during active service or while on disability, your beneficiary receives a benefit equal to the greater of your annual effective salary or the annual churchwide median effective salary for your employment classification. more

Salary Continuation for Retired Members

A minimum payment of $8,000 is payable to your designated beneficiaries. more

Living Needs for Active & Disabled Members

If you are terminally ill (with a life expectancy of 24 months or less), you may elect to receive a portion of your Salary Continuation and/or Lump Sum Death Benefit before your death. more

Living Needs for Retired Members

If you are terminally ill (with a life expectancy of 24 months or less), you may elect to receive a portion of the minimum Salary Continuation Benefit before your death. more

Lump Sum for Active & Disabled Members

If you die with death benefits coverage while an active or disabled member, your eligible survivor(s) will receive a Lump Sum Death benefit. more

Children's Education Benefit

If you have children under age 25 and you die with death benefits coverage, or you are retired from active service with death benefits coverage, the Benefits Plan will pay $9,000 a year for each of your children for the first four years of full-time study beyond high school, or until age 25, if sooner. more

Supplemental Death Benefits

This optional program allows you to increase the security you offer to your beneficiaries upon death if you are under the age of 70. more
