Ways to keep the happy in your holidays

November 27, 2019
Try these tips to relax and enjoy a healthy, happy holiday with your loved ones.

The holiday season can be a time of great joy, with friends and family coming together and reconnecting over delicious home-cooked meals. But sometimes, the pressure of throwing the perfect party or finding that special gift can cause less than joyful feelings.

Here are some tips from the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to help you stop sweating the small stuff so you can focus on having a healthy, happy holiday season.

  • Make the holidays about the people in your life, not things.
  • Practice gratitude every day.
  • Eat because you’re hungry, not because you’re feeling bored, overwhelmed, or sad.
  • Set a spending limit on gifts, get creative with homemade gifts, or give the gift of your time or skills.
  • Give your time by volunteering at a local charity.
  • Plan fun activities, such as building a snowman or going ice skating.
  • Practice portion control, and pile on the fruits and veggies for better health and well-being.
  • Try not to overcommit and learn to say “no.”
  • Listen to your body, slow down, and take regular breaks.

Remember, too, that if you are eligible for the EAP and you find yourself feeling stressed or overwhelmed, you can call 866-640-2772 anytime, any day, for free, confidential assistance.* EAP advocates are available 24/7 to listen to your concerns and help you find the solution for keeping the happy in your holidays.

*The EAP is not available to members enrolled in Triple-S, GeoBlue, or the Medicare Supplement Plan.
