Is calling a minister of the Word and Sacrament slightly out of reach for your small congregation? Are finances preventing your church, whatever its size, from hiring an additional pastor?
Pathways to Renewal, a dues reduction program offered by the Board of Pensions of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), helps churches extend calls to young ministers and so provides opportunities for renewed or expanded leadership. Qualifying ministers receive full benefits through Pastor’s Participation at substantially reduced dues.
Pathways cut the dues for a new associate pastor position at Grace Presbyterian Church, Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, “nearly in half,” said its pastor, the Reverend Dr. Sanford “Sandy” Hull.
The program allows congregations and ministries to receive a substantial savings on dues for PPO medical coverage, pension, and death and disability coverage for five years. The minister of the Word and Sacrament must be under age 40 and never previously enrolled in Pastor’s Participation. Any church may qualify if it adds to ministerial headcount.
“Pathways to Renewal is a gift from God,” said Rev. Hull. “We are very grateful for the opportunity it provides.”
