Have you received your new medical ID card?

January 09, 2019

New medical ID cards have been mailed to plan members. Remember to activate your new ID card and present it to your healthcare provider whenever you seek care.

New medical ID cards for 2019 have been mailed to all employees and covered family members enrolled in the PPO, EPO, and HDHP medical options, and to retired members in the Medicare Supplement Plan. Before you use your card, call the toll-free number on the front of the card to activate it, then shred your old medical ID card.

Be sure to present your new card at the doctor’s office and anytime you seek healthcare services. It includes a new three-letter prefix at the beginning of your member ID and group numbers, which is needed to process your claims in 2019. If you present your old ID card after January 1, your claims may not be processed.

If you have not received your new cards, you can order replacements and print temporary ID cards by logging into the Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield website* and clicking ID cards on the member home page.

For assistance, call the Board of Pensions at 800-773-7752 (800 PRESPLAN).

*If your employer offers 2019 medical coverage through the national Aetna network (western PA only), you can download a temporary ID card by logging into the Aetna website.
