Employee Assistance Program offers financial consultations, tax services

January 17, 2020

In addition to help with life’s daily challenges, the Employee Assistance Program can assist with all kinds of financial concerns.

You may think the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), offered through the Board of Pensions, is only for issues that affect your emotional and physical well-being, such as anxiety or depression. But did you know the EAP includes services to help with your financial well-being, too? Through the EAP, eligible employees,* their family members, and anyone living in their household can get a free consultation with a qualified financial specialist, plus discounts on tax preparation.

Free phone consultations

EAP services include free 30-minute phone consultations with a financial expert. The EAP’s financial experts include certified financial planners, certified public accountants, enrolled agents, and other qualified professionals who can assist with a wide range of topics, including

  • tax planning (including clergy tax issues);
  • budgeting;
  • debt counseling;
  • credit management and repair;
  • college funding; and
  • saving for financial emergencies.

If your needs extend beyond the scope of the initial free consultation, additional phone support and referral to other resources are available.

Discounts on tax services

The EAP also offers a 25 percent discount on tax preparation services, including one federal tax return (Schedule A and Schedule B) and one state income tax return. If additional forms are required, the charge is $65 per form.

To use the EAP

To access the EAP’s financial services, or for help with just about any concern, call Cigna Behavioral Health at 866-640-2772. Or log on to the Cigna website to live chat with an EAP advocate (one-time registration is required; use pcusa for Employee’s Employer ID).

*The EAP is not available to members enrolled in Triple-S, GeoBlue, or the Medicare Supplement Plan.
