Broader eligibility for sabbatical grants begins

January 09, 2019

Eligibility for Sabbath Sabbatical Support Grants is now wider. If you’re a minister in or supporting congregational ministry, see if you qualify for help with the cost of a sabbatical.

God wishes for everyone to take Sabbath rest, but for those employed in or supporting congregational ministry, it’s essential. That’s why the Board of Pensions has expanded eligibility for Sabbath Sabbatical Support Grants. Now, more plan members are eligible for up to $3,000 through the Assistance Program.

The grants are open to any Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) minister enrolled in Pastor's Participation and engaged in or supporting congregational ministry, such as interim ministers and mid council staff. Congregational size is no longer a factor.

To qualify, you will have to have been continuously enrolled in Pastor’s Participation (previously, the Traditional Program) for at least the past six years. Your effective salary may not exceed $80,000, and you’ll have to show financial need.

Now is a great time to develop a plan for rest, renewal, reflection, and study. To apply for assistance supporting your sabbatical, you’ll need to develop your plan, obtain the needed authorizations, and complete this application.

Questions? Call the Board at 800-773-7752 (800-PRESPLAN) and ask for the Assistance team.
