The 2018 Mid Council Leaders Gathering will be held from 9 a.m. Friday, October 5 to 11 a.m. Sunday, October 7 at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in suburban Chicago, Illinois.
The Rev. Dr. Gregory C. Ellison II, associate professor at Emory University's Candler School of Theology and founder of Fearless Dialogues, will serve as the keynote speaker.
This event, co-sponsored by the Office of the General Assembly and The Board of Pensions of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), is designed for presbytery and synod executives and stated clerks.
The Association of Stated Clerks and the Association of Mid Council Leaders will hold events at the same venue October 7-9.
The Mid Council Leaders Gathering is an opportunity for mid council leaders and staff of both sponsoring agencies to engage with one another in a collaborative environment. Attendees will
- learn about polity issues;
- discuss benefits issues related to polity and partnership;
- share common concerns;
- discuss the changing state of the Church; and
- discern common life together.
About the keynote speaker
The Rev. Dr. Gregory C. Ellison II is associate professor at Emory University's Candler School of Theology and founder of Fearless Dialogues, a grassroots organization "committed to creating unique spaces for unlikely partners to engage in hard, heartfelt conversations that see gifts in others, hear value in stories, and work for change and positive transformation in self and other."
Rev. Dr. Ellison also is the author of the book Fearless Dialogues: A New Movement for Justice, in which he walks readers through the steps that must be taken to find common ground in our divided communities and then to implement genuine and lasting change.
Registration and fees
Registration for the 2018 Mid Council Leaders Gathering opens in early August.
Stated clerks and executives of each mid council will receive an email in July requesting that they submit the names of two presbytery-designated attendees eligible for the lower conference rate of $175 per attendee, which includes conference fees, partial room and meals costs, and a travel allowance of $450.
Registration for subsequent attendees is $350 per attendee and does not include a travel allowance.
