Eligibility

If you are an installed pastor, your church must provide you coverage under Pastor’s Participation, regardless of how many hours you work. If you are a teaching elder who is not in an installed position and you are scheduled to work at least 20 hours a week, your employer may choose to provide you Pastor’s Participation or offer you coverage under menu options.

If you are a teaching elder who is not in an installed position, under menu options you are eligible for medical coverage and the Retirement Savings Plan of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (RSP) regardless of the number of hours a week you are scheduled to work. Any other benefits require you to work at least 20 hours a week.

If you are not a teaching elder, you may participate in menu options. You must be scheduled to work at least 20 hours a week to be eligible for benefits under menu options, except for the RSP, which has no minimum-hour workweek.

Menu Options

Under menu options, your employer may offer you a combination of the following:

  • Pension Plan
  • RSP
  • death and disability coverage
  • medical coverage in the PPO (preferred provider organization) and/or EPO (exclusive provider organization)

  • supplemental death and disability coverage

Pastor’s Participation

  • Pension Plan
  • death and disability coverage
  • full family medical coverage in the PPO

Additionally, Pastor’s Participation provides you with access to the RSP, dental coverage, and supplemental death and disability coverage (if eligible).
