Montreat Conference Center
Montreat, North Carolina
Well-Being Retreat offers active and retired plan members and their spouses a unique opportunity to explore wholeness through the spiritual, health, financial, and vocational aspects of their lives. Surviving spouses are also welcome to attend.
This gathering is an opportunity to become more deeply rooted in your life and ministry (at
any stage of the journey) through worship, fellowship, educational offerings, and time for contemplative reflection. Participants are able to customize the retreat experience by selecting educational workshops and guided activities that best support their journey to well-being, as they enjoy fellowship, rest, and renewal in a tranquil setting.
Hosted by Board University, in partnership with the Presbyterian Foundation and its subsidiary, New Covenant Trust Company, Well-Being Retreat 2018 returns to Montreat Conference Center in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina.
Along with some returning favorites, highlights for Well-Being Retreat 2018 include:
- an optional pre-retreat experience (full- or half-day), focused on spiritual practices
- Ask Frank: an informal gathering in which participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and hear from Board President Frank C. Spencer
- discussion groups and selected readings with Beth Lindsay Templeton, author of the recently published
Uncharted Journey: On the Challenges of Getting Older and Other Transitions
- new learning opportunities, such as Companions on the Journey; Reclaiming Sabbath; 2018 Tax Law: Navigating the Terrain; Improving Sleep for Maximum Health; God's Grace Fuels Our Ministries; and Where Have You Been, and Where Are You Going?
Since its inception in 2015, the Well-Being Retreat has evolved from a gathering focused on financial well-being into an opportunity to explore many facets of wholeness. Here's what just a few of our 250-plus participants have said about their Well-Being Retreat experience:
“Came away very refreshed, very encouraged, and very comfortable with the Board of Pensions' and the Foundation's support for pastors and leaders.”
“This event really has to be one of the best I have ever attended. It not only helped me with some of my own ‘stuff,’ it gave me some great ideas to bring back to the local church. I can’t stress enough the importance of the workshops for self-care and for church care, a good balance of both.”
“The planning and presenting committee did a great job. It had a welcoming and comfortable feel. Everyone was totally approachable. Thank you for an informative and well-run conference.”
We hope to see you at Well-Being Retreat 2018.
Well-Being Retreat has been offered in different regions of the country in order to make the event accessible to all Benefits Plan members. Well-Being Retreat 2017 drew 88 participants from 26 states to Zephyr Point Conference Center on Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Returning to the east coast, Well-Being Retreat 2018 will take place at Montreat Conference Center — one of the largest conference centers affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), in Montreat, North Carolina.
The program content for Well-Being Retreat focuses on the spiritual, health, financial, and vocational dimensions of wholeness. This is a wonderful opportunity to step away from daily responsibilities and enhance skills that can improve your life and sustain your service to the Church. At the same time, experience personal and professional renewal through guided activities and conversations with colleagues and clergy. Free time and space for silent retreat are now woven into the agenda, so that participants can more thoughtfully absorb various elements of the retreat for a more contemplative experience.
While there is no conference fee to attend Well-Being Retreat, attendees are responsible for their travel and lodging, as well as a nominal $30 meal fee. Payment for lodging (if staying at Montreat) and meals (from Monday lunch through Wednesday breakfast) must be made at the time of registration.
