Welcome to Employer News, a newsletter from The Board of Pensions of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). This publication highlights recent Board news and important updates and information specifically for employers. We hope you find this newsletter useful, and we welcome your feedback at any time.

Check Your January Invoice

Your January invoice (dated January 1, 2018) reflects the coverages selected in the Employer Agreement that you submitted for 2018 benefits. If you would like to compare your invoice to the Employer Agreement on file for your church or organization, log on to Benefits Connect and select Employer Agreement from the top of the page. Scroll down and click 2018 Submitted Agreement in the table to view benefit groups, plan selections, and estimated costs.

Update Salary Information in Benefits Connect

Keep your New Year’s resolution to be more organized by submitting salary changes (e.g., cash salary, bonus amount, housing allowance, employer contributions, SECA, and other allowances) in a timely manner.

To report salary changes for one or more members, log on to Benefits Connect as the Employer Representative, and select Manage Employees from the top of the screen. Click on the name of the member for whom you are reporting a salary change. On the next screen, choose Change Salary, enter the appropriate values, and Submit the change.

Keep in mind:

  • Salary changes must be reported within 60 days of the effective date. Example: Salary changes that are effective January 1, 2018, must be submitted through Benefits Connect no later than March 1, 2018.
  • When you submit a salary change with an effective date in the future, the member's new salary will not appear in Benefits Connect until that date.
  • Salary changes and bonus payments with the same effective date may be entered together in one salary change submission. Salary changes and bonus payments that are not effective on the same date must be submitted separately in Benefits Connect.

Tax Time!

Although we do not anticipate any changes to the Benefits Plan as a result of the new tax law, the Board of Pensions is awaiting guidance from the IRS, and will keep you updated as more information becomes available that may affect your role.

The Tax Guide for Ministers for 2017 Returns and Federal Reporting Requirements for Churches: What You Need To Know for 2018 will be available next month through Benefits Connect (search in Resources & Support). In addition, the Tax Guide will be mailed to active and retired ministers of the Word and Sacrament.

Employer services and member services representatives are available to provide guidance at 800-773-7752 (800-PRESPLAN).

Fidelity Announces Lower RSP Expense Ratios

Fidelity Investments, record keeper for the Retirement Savings Plan of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (RSP), has announced lower expense ratios for two socially responsible investment options in the plan. Read Fidelity Announces Lower Expenses on RSP Socially Responsible Options.

Please support your employees’ participation in the RSP. Employers must offer the RSP to those in Pastor’s Participation and may offer it to other employees. Any employee receiving a W-2 from a PC(USA) employer may join.

The RSP’s online resources ― particularly Fidelity’s Planning & Guidance Center ― can help individuals set goals and better understand the many factors that can affect financial well-being during retirement.

If you have questions about the RSP, call the Board at 800-773-7752 (800-PRESPLAN) or Fidelity’s treasurer and administrator assistance line at 800-917-4369.

Encourage Well-Being through Call to Health!

Are health and well-being a priority at your church or organization? How many eligible staff members (and spouses) completed Call to Health last year, and how many missed the chance for lower 2018 deductibles or a $100 Amazon gift card? Do you remind each other to get annual checkups?

This year, resolve to champion Call to Health at your organization. Encourage eligible staff to begin a challenge at calltohealth.org in any of four dimensions of wholeness — spiritual, health, financial, and vocational — and to return regularly for additional challenges and points. You could make a meaningful difference in a colleague’s life — or, at the very least, have fun on the journey to better health and well-being.

To learn more, read Answer the Call to Health or view Answering the Call to Health on pensions.org. Remember, when members reach 1,000 points, they earn reduced deductibles for 2019; at 2,000 points they get a $100 Amazon gift card. Covered spouses earn a $100 Amazon gift card at 1,000 points.

Strive for 100 percent participation by encouraging all your Medical Plan members to complete Call to Health!

*Call to Health is available to members and their spouses enrolled in the active Medical Plan (the Highmark PPO or EPO); it is not available to members enrolled in Triple-S, GeoBlue, or the Medicare Supplement Plan.
