2019 medical coverage rates under menu options

2019 medical coverage rates through menu options are available to congregations and employers who log on to Benefits Connect to complete the Employer Agreement. To ensure the fairest pricing possible, the Board factors in regional and demographic data when setting rates for medical coverage through menu options. Read about the rate-setting process.

Are your employees taking advantage of pretax retirement savings?

As a church treasurer or benefits administrator, you play a vital role in educating ministers and employees about the Retirement Savings Plan of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (RSP). Perhaps you already offer the RSP but not everyone is contributing — or contributions are lower than the recommended 10 to 15 percent of pay.

Many people are under the impression that Social Security and a pension (if available) will be enough to sustain them in retirement. Recent studies, however, show that voluntary savings are essential to maintain our quality of life once we stop working. Consider sharing Why participate in the Retirement Savings Plan of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)? to help employees jump-start their savings or take a more active role in planning for retirement.

If you don’t offer the RSP, check out the Retirement Savings Plan Toolkit to learn more. Participating is easy for employers and a great way to support the financial well-being of your employees.

Fidelity’s SCP is secure

This year, employers who use paper forms and checks to contribute to the Retirement Savings Plan of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (RSP) will transition to Fidelity’s online Simplified Contribution Platform (SCP). SCP requires you to provide bank account information online for Fidelity to fund employee RSP accounts. Learn how Fidelity keeps your account and contribution data secure.

For your convenience, SCP allows multiple users from each employer to register and remit contributions through SCP. If you currently use paper forms to contribute to the RSP and have not yet registered for SCP, contact Fidelity’s treasurer and administrator assistance line at 800-917-4369.

Seminary student healthcare enrollment is open

Enrollment is open for seminary students to receive comprehensive healthcare coverage through the Board of Pensions. Now through September 15, 2018, inquirers and candidates for ordination in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) can elect healthcare coverage in either the preferred provider organization (PPO) or the exclusive provider organization (EPO) — both in the national Blue Cross Blue Shield network, the largest in the United States.

The cost of seminarian healthcare coverage will not increase this year, from the significantly reduced cost the Board of Directors approved last year. Read more about eligibility and costs.

Board of Pensions named one of the 2018 Best Places to Work

Each year, Philadelphia Business Journal names the Best Places to Work in the region. We’re proud to announce that the Board of Pensions is one of the 2018 Best Places to Work. The Board is one of 77 employers in the region, including the surrounding Pennsylvania and New Jersey suburbs, to be recognized. It is among 23 employers honored in the category for large companies (100-499 employees). An employee survey is used to determine selection. The survey measures satisfaction in such areas as work environment, personal growth, and the embracing of change and new ideas.

Ways to encourage new calls for ministers

Encouraging new calls for ministers was the topic of a recent conversation between two leaders in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Watch the video of the exchange between the Reverend Dr. Lee Hinson-Hasty, Senior Director of Theological Education Funds Development for the Presbyterian Foundation, and the Reverend Frank Clark Spencer, President of the Board of Pensions.

RSP: Employers using paper forms for RSP contributions will continue to receive Fidelity Investments reminders to sign up for Simplified Contribution Platform (SCP) if they have not done so.

Call to Health: A postcard was recently mailed to members with medical coverage. Encourage employees to make their appointments for preventive care and answer the call by November 16.
